The ramblings of an over 50, single, substitute "Mom" and her charge as I try to get it right -- I am experienced, after all . . . but, fumble anyway.

MK Weather Girl
Weather Girl, Mary-Katherine. Go to: http://mywabashvalley.com/content/weather then click on Weather Summary, then click on 7/29/09 Valley Showcase Weather. Listen for the pitter-patter of her little feet as she runs to hug me when she's done. She was sooooooo happy.
I found a new setting on my camera for shooting flowers!
Bean #1
So far, we have three bean pods. Bugs are eating the leaves.
Bean #2
Bean #3
Second Strawberry
The birds found the first strawberry (pictured yesterday) and ate right out of the center of it! This is a new one that showed up today. I'm sure it will be gone soon. We have buds for more.
"FLOWERS" NOT
Actually, squash, lettuce, flowers, and grass where we planted what were supposed to be flowers! This is what happens when children help you garden. But, the squash looks excellent!
Our Recession Garden & First Harvest
These are the beautiful squash plants growing where we planted what the package said was FLOWERS! Actually, I think MK may have mis-labled them in the spring planter box we started everything in.
Peony
The peonies were beautiful only a few days before being ruined by rain.
Leaf Lettuce
Recovering from being beat down by rain
First Harvest from Recession Garden
This is actually from a "thinning" of the garden.
Parsley
One and Only Strawberry
The birds had not found this strawberry, and so far, it is the largest one we've ever had left on the vine.
Onions
We planted MANY onions, but this is the only patch growing well. We thin it to get our green onions and they are tasty!
Potato Plants
They are growing like crazy!
Hosta
Aren't the leaves pretty?
Potato Plant Blooms
Pretty light purple with bright yellow centers. I've never seen any before.
Our First Recession Garden Salad
First White Rose of Summer
This is the first bloom on the white rosebush this spring.
Max the Mouse
Max the Mouse in Cinderella, Cinderella
Sledding Fun
FUN!
Sledding
Another one bites the dust
More Sledding
Oh, that's gotta hurt!
And yet, another one bites the dust . . . er, snow.

Window Headed to Chicago -- AGAIN!
Installer dropped the first window over the top of his ladder, so I had to rebuild all of it except the flower sections. Owner also decided to switch to white background instead of clear, and it sure makes the numbers pop.
Window Headed for Chicago
This is not a good picture, but here is the window to go above the entry door to a house in Chicago.
Unwelcome Visitor
This opossum created a stir last night. I heard a dog barking furiously, and it was the dachshund that lives near here. It had sort of "cornered" an opossum, which was actually perched upon our fence. The opssum wouldn't budge, even after the dog left. The neighbor was out too. He slipped around past the opossum to shut his back gate to keep the dachshund from returning. It was way too close to the bunnies' cage, so I threw rocks at the fence to scare it off. It still sat there. Finally, I threw bigger rocks, a handful at a time and it did a highwire act to the far end of the fence. We've seen this guy hanging out in the yard two houses down several times this summer. I wonder just where his home is.
"Yellow" squash??
Look what we found among what was supposed to be our "yellow" squash!
Piano Practice
MK practicing piano with Lionel.
First Yellow Squash
Here is the first yellow squash. We have another one that should be ready soon. Hopefully, there will be more.
Peanuts
He loves peanuts. He buries the walnuts and other nuts. He seems to like almonds, too.
A Squirrel
We have a new friend.
A Squash
So far we have found one squash.
With Friends at Tennis Camp
MK with H, L, & S at Tennis Camp. She's so happy to be there with them.

MK Leading the Group
MK is leading the others in her class into the arena for the show at the end of Bible School Horse Camp.
Squash Plants are Getting Big
This is one squash plant of two that are getting really big. All the rest are growing well.
Green Tomatoes
We have one plant that has tomatoes starting, and I accidentally knocked one tomato off. Sorry, the pic is sideways, but you can still see them.
Our First Potatoes!
These are our first potatoes. They are little new potatoes. MK really enjoyed eating them. She thinks they taste much better than store--bought potatoes.
Sounds neat, but I'm afraid that I can't get the 29th to come up.
ReplyDeleteOther people have said they had problems getting the video to work, too.
